When i was last here it was for a friends birthday & the staff had arranged everything lovely for our table,we went in for our meal around 7 & ended up staying the rest of the evening we had such a great time.
The meals are a bit more expensive but definately worth paying that bit extra for
Sundays are another great time to give it a try as they have a carvery served with lovely fresh local grown produce, the vegetables are always cooked to perfection. They make their own desserts which you need to make sure you save room for as they are delicious definately well worth a visit here
You can take the children as its children friendly & theres a play area for afterwards while you enjoy a relaxing drink/let your food settle

The trouble with here is that the food is never consistent I have had excellent food on occasions, I have also had atrocious food which is disappointing as it has the potential of being one of the best in the area, if going just hope they have got the good chef on for the night.

Certainly won't be returning. Have given this place chance after chance. Majority of food is over cooked or in some cases burnt beyond recognition!

I've tried this place twice now: once in March 09 and again in May 09.
Both times have been a total disappointment.

However, I found myself there again last night and it was a different story.
There was a different chef working tonight (HINT: If you're planning a meal there, ask when Ben will be working) and he's made one heck of a difference.

I ordered the fresh crab salad andit was exactly as it said on the tin: fresh, simply but beautifully presented in the shell. The accompanying salad was also fresh and crisp, with the usual lettuce, tomato, cucumber, celery, pepper and onion. It also had a generous mound of coleslaw (which I didn't eat: on a diet), pickled baby onions, pickled dill gherkins (yum!) and beetroot.

4 of the people I was with chose the steak pie: I was told the pastry was light, the meat was juicy and well-cooked and the gravy was very nice.
The chips weren't too greasy, were a good, solid chip and I was told again they were lovely.

One other person had the chicken in stilton sauce which she said was lovely and creamy but could have done with a bit more stilton in the sauce.

Vegetables were fresh and not overcooked: we had broccoli, carrot and courgette.

We didn't have a starter or pudding - having had a peek at the ones the other diners were having, I rather regretted that!

Sunday lunch is good and the choice for evening meals is fairly extensive. The food is freshly prepared and tasty. The soups have let it down being rather thin and watery on many occasions. The lunch menu is a bit limited. But the drinks are very reasonably priced as are the meals and service is very good. .
